Garland County Library (GCL) is celebrating National Library Card Sign-Up Month and Power of the Card with a community event designed to grow readership and connect neighbors. Bring a Buddy Day will take place on Saturday, September 5, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Garland County Library.
The concept is simple: patrons who bring a buddy, family member, or neighbor to sign up for a library card, for themselves or for their buddy, will both receive a gift card to a participating local business through GCL's Power of the Card program. Gift cards are available while supplies last, on a first come, first served basis. A photo ID will be needed to sign up for a library card.
National Library Card Sign-Up Month, observed each September, encourages people of all ages to discover all of the free resources available at their local library from books and digital media to community programs and research tools. Bring a Buddy Day extends that mission by turning the sign-up process into a shared, social occasion.
The Power of the Card program partners with local businesses to reward library card holders with special offers and incentives throughout the month of September. A full list of participating businesses is available at gclibrary.com/powerofthecard.
